Biden to survey Hurricane Ida in New York, New Jersey

On Saturday, President Joe Biden announced that he will be visiting Manville, New Jersey, and Queens, New York on Tuesday, to survey the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Ida and its remnants.

Meanwhile, more than 60 people have lost their lives as a result of the storm. Many of the victims died in a terrible way as some of them were drowned in cars or were swept away by floodwaters.

Brian Mohl, a Connecticut State Police sergeant, was also one of the victims that died in flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. Louisiana Department of Health also confirmed that six of its nursing home residents died after being evacuated to a warehouse.

A 31-year-old New Jersey resident was also reported dead after being swept into a 36-inch storm sewer. New Jersey saw the highest death toll, with at least 25 people confirmed dead.

Most the of the victims were drowned in their cars. Flood water reportedly rushed into an Elizabeth, New Jersey apartment, killing a family of three.

Meanwhile, In New York City, eleven died as floodwaters filled their low-lying apartments. In the Northeast, at least 50 people died from Virginia to Connecticut. Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama saw at least 14 deaths. Several deaths were also blamed on carbon monoxide poisoning from backup generators running improperly.
